THE BOOK PRESENTED TO ME BY UTTARA SHAHANI
Uttara Shahani, Ph.D
student & researcher today
presented me a copy of book “ THE EPIC CINEMA
OF
KUMAR SHAHANI”. This book is about her father,
Kumar Shahani, who was born in
Larkana and migrated
to India
after partition when he was of two years only.
This book is written by Laleen Jayamanne
-a Sri Lanka born
lady of international repute.
She did Ph.D in film, worked in various theaters
and directed several short films and earned name
and fame in the field research
related to theater, opera and film.
Kumar Shahani is an eminent Art film Director
and has
contributed a lot in his field in capacity
of a director, producer and
script-writer.
Feature-Length Films directed are:
‘Maya Darpan’, Tarang’, ‘Khayal
gatha’,
‘Kashi’, ‘Bhavantarana’, ‘Char adhyay’ and
‘Banswri’. Whereas, he has
directed more
than ten Short Films such as: ‘Var var vari’,
‘Fire in the Belly’,
‘Object’ and ‘Our Universe’ etc.
Laleen Jayamanne
teaches Cinema Studies
in the department of Art History and Film Studies
at the University
of Sydney
a critic and research scholar by virtue of producing
this book. She
has done an excellent job in
introducing Kumar Shahani as an outstanding
figure
of the Film world. This book is important
for me because, it is about a man who
was born in Larkana
-a city, that has produced big
